Qualifications Include:

Current registration as a registered nurse in a province or territory of Canada
Baccalaureate degree in nursing from a Canadian University or recognized equivalent
Previous experience in community health nursing preferably in a First Nations setting

Self-directed and motivated
Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills
Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team
Good computer skills
Valid BC driver's license and access to personal vehicle

PERMANENT PART-TIME RECEPTIONIST

Three Corners Health Services Society provides community health services to Canoe Creek, Soda Creek and Williams Lake Indian Bands. We are presently seeking applications for a permanent part-time receptionist. The successful candidate will be well organized, motivated, and be capable of working independently as well as part of a team.

Qualifications:

Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Programs
Excellend oral and written communication skills
Ability to prioritize and organize daily routines efficiently
Valid driver's license and own transportation
At least one year of previous office experience preferred

H1N1 Flu Virus (Human Swine Flu)

H1N1 Flu Virus (Human Swine Flu)

British Columbia continues to monitor and respond to the recent spread of the novel H1N1 flu virus (human swine flu). Swift action is being taken by health officials around the world to monitor the disease. The number of cases as expected is increasing as more people are aware of the situation. So far, most people outside of Mexico have experienced relatively mild illness. At the present time no disease has been detected in First Nation communities although the disease has been detected in First Nations communities in northern Manitoba, north-eastern Ontario and Nunavut.

Experts have determined that the H1N1 flu virus can spread relatively easily from person to person. On June 11^th the World Health Organization raised the level of influenza pandemic alert to phase 6. This change in status is due to the spread of the disease to more countries. It does not mean the H1N1 virus has become more severe. This is an excellent time to improve your knowledge about self-care and become more prepared. Information is changing rapidly and one of the best ways to keep accurately informed is to check official websites.

Three Corners Health Services Society is monitoring the situation. As part of our pandemic plan we have requested meetings in each of the communities to provide information. Sessions have been provided in Dog Creek on June 16^th and Soda Creek on June 18^th.

As a community member the best thing that you can do is to stay informed and be prepared.

The best way to prevent infection is as follows:

Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it. When you cough, do so into your sleeve if possible;
Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze. Alcohol-based hands cleaners are also effective;
Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth-germs spread that way;
Avoid close contact with sick people-try to stay at least 6 feet away from others when they are sick;
If you get sick, stay home from school or work and limit contact with others to keep from infecting them;
Keep common surfaces and items clean and disinfected ( a mixture 1part bleach to 9 parts of water will kill the influenza virus);
See a health-care provider if your symptoms become worse, but call ahead to let them know you have a fever or cough illness;
